The fourth annual Katie Woods Memorial Poker Run

The fourth annual Katie Woods Memorial Poker Run will be held Saturday, June 5, with proceeds going again to support a Creative Spirit Award now presented each year in her name to a graduating senior at Kewanee High School.

The 19-year-old KHS grad was killed on Jan. 29, 2001, in a traffic accident west of Kewanee.

The award and poker run were established by her family in her memory.

Riders may sign in for the poker run between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Kewanee Eagle's Club, 314 N. Main St., where the benefit is being held.

There will be a hog roast from 5 to 7 p.m. and an auction of donated items at 7 p.m. with auctioneer Mark Guthrie of Annawan donating his services.

For the second year, proceeds from the auction will go to the Kewanee Animal Shelter, a favorite cause of Katie's.

Two bands -- "Short Lived Fun," and "H.H.O.S." -- have donated their talents and will alternate sets between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. for dancing.

Raffles also will be conducted throughout the evening.

T-shirts bearing one of Katie's senior photos commemorating the fourth annual fund-raiser are available for $10 and can be ordered before the benefit from Katie's sister, Rachael Damm, at Elements, 116 W. Second St., or call 852-5596. The shirts were designed by Katie's mother, Debbie Woods, and Andy Gibson, both of Kewanee.

They also will be available at the benefit.

Those wishing to donate items for the auction may call Kellie Wallace at the shelter at 852-0040.

Arrangements can be made to have the item picked up prior to the event.
