A poker night Aug. 14 at Ocean's 11 Casino netted approximately $48,000 for the family of Dan Hendricks, the popular veteran conditioner who was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident in July.
Trainer Christopher Paasch, who organized the tournament, said,
"I think we raised right at $60,000, and I think $48,000 to $49,000 will stay with the Hendricks family. We had about 250 people turn out, with 187 playing. We had a great time and everyone was thrilled to be able to help Dan and his family."

Paasch said the tournament winner was John Ernst, a Hendricks' client. Ernst turned all the money back in to benefit the family. The five Southern California racing operations each donated $2,500 to the benefit.
When asked why he took on the project, Paasch said, "Dan and I shared the same barn for the last four or five years, and, as many people know, I've had a lot of health problems myself, so I know what Danny and his family are going through. People don't realize the immediate changes you have to make in your life and how severe they are."
Paasch owner Charles Cono is paying for the design and construction of a specially equipped golf cart for Hendricks' use when he returns to the backside.
