A MAN who scooped £125,000 on the TV game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? plans to stake part of his winnings on a game of poker.

David Meyer, 41, walked away with the massive cheque when he decided to go no further in the show, which was screened on Saturday. But the pharmacist today said that he plans to punt £10,000 on an entry fee to the world series poker game in Las Vegas.

Mr Meyer, from Edinburgh, took up poker around seven years ago when The Maybury Hotel in the Capital was transformed into a casino. He has since travelled to Europe for poker tournaments and won the Euro finals event in Paris last year.

He said: "The world series is the most glamorous poker event and every player would love to have a go at it. Over the years, my poker has earned me money. It’s a hobby that pays for itself."

Mr Meyer had no lifelines left when he faced host Chris Tarrant and a chance to go one better for a £250,000 cheque.
