2004/2/18 20:58:00

It's a poker rally with a difference.

Everyone is invited to attend the Enilda volunteer fire department's non-motorized poker rally Feb. 29. A non-motorized poker rally is exactly what its name suggests: anything powered by a motor is not allowed.

The poker rally runs from 1-4 p.m. and begins at the Enilda W.I. Hall. Supper is at 4:30 p.m. courtesy of the Enilda fire department with awards to follow.

"There will be a 50 per cent payout and the other 50 per cent will go to the (Edmonton) burn unit," says Enilda fire chief Craig Bissell.

The department raises about $600-700 each year it holds the rally.

Hands cost $20 each and anyone participating can purchase as many hands as they wish. Special youth hands for $5 will also be sold.

The route is about three kilometers long and will be snowplowed making it easy to walk or cross-country ski the distance.

Bissell adds other unannounced activities will take place. He urges as many people to attend the poker rally as possible to support a good cause. Just show up at the hall and enter.
